Playstation Vita, everything you need to know

The PlayStation Vita, unveiled at Sony’s E3 2011 press conference, represents the company’s second entry into the handheld gaming market, and aims to provide the most comprehensive portable gaming experience around.

The PlayStation Vita looks quite similar to the PSP, and on paper its an astonishing piece of hardware, with a quad-core processor powering nearly PS3-level graphics on  a 5-inch OLED multi-touch capacitive touchscreen, 24-bit color with a resolution of 960 × 540 qHD and has pixel density of 220 ppi, backed up by two analog sticks, a touch-sensitive back panel, and a smartphone-style OS.

The PS Vita also supports social networking apps such as Facebook, Skype, Twitter, and foursquare. Furthermore, apps like, Welcome Park,  “Party,” Trophies, Friends, PlayStation Store, Remote Play, Video player, Music player, Photos and Camera, Group Messaging, and Content Manager  are also pre-installed. The most impressive app however is called “near” and is an app that enables you to check in to real-life locations and pick up or leave gifts for other gamers to find and use in their games. You can also locate and connect with your PlayStation Network friends and other gamers nearby for ad-hoc communication and multiplayer sessions.

Pricewise, the PlayStation Vita that comes in two versions, PSV Wi-Fi only and PSV Wi-Fi + 3G, is priced at $299.99 (3G model) while the Wi-Fi only is  priced at $249.99. PS Vita will arrive in Europe on the 22nd of February, with the largest launch game line-up in console's history and a wide array of accessories. For gamers looking for a complete solution, a Starter Kit with Memory Card will be available for $39.99 , which includes a 4GB Memory Card, Pocket Pouch, Protective Film, Game Card Case, Headphones, and Cleaning Cloth. Standalone Memory Cards will start at $19.99 providing plenty of options for storing games and save data, videos, music, photos and more.
