Sneaky Crab, one of the world’s first Apple Watch gaming start-ups, has revealed Timecrest, a free-to-play gamebook experience played out over real time. The game features multiple endings and non-linear storytelling, brought to life with the latest Apple Watch technologies, to launch alongside watchOS2 this fall.

“Native app development on Apple Watch with watchOS 2 is a game-changer,” said Sneaky Crab CEO Justin Ng. “We’ve written a story where through interactive text messaging, you feel a close and personal connection to the main character, Ash. watchOS 2’s native app technology opens up short gameplay sessions and near instant loading times, which makes you feel like the character is right there, messaging you, asking for your help.”

Timecrest, developed for iOS and Apple Watch, is set in the magical world of Alyncia, where we meet a young mage named Ash who desperately needs your help to save it from imminent destruction. The story not only introduces new characters to meet, but a whole world to explore. The events play out in real time and the choices you make with Ash will determine major plot changes and uncover multiple possible endings.

Timecrest features light role-playing elements such as merchant and inventory systems which serve to give the player further immersion into the world. In addition to being one of the first games to run natively on Apple Watch devices, Timecrest will take advantage of additional watchOS2 features such as haptic feedback when casting powerful spells, and complications to keep you apprised of Ash’s journey with just a glance.

“In Timecrest, you have the power to turn back time,” said Ng. “A game with a story that plays out in real-time and features time-travel magic just makes so much sense for the Apple Watch platform.”

Timecrest will be available as a free download from the iTunes App Store.
