Refract, the game studio behind Distance, has just announced that their survival racing game will be launching on Steam Early Access on December 9th! They’ve released an intense new 1080p 60fps trailer showing some of the racing action found in the latest beta build, including a teaser of new horror-themed story content.

Distance fuses the intense action of arcade racing with the exploration of a mysterious world. You control a unique car that allows you to boost, jump, rotate, and even fly through a chaotic city. The private beta currently features a short single player campaign, as well as additional split-screen and online multiplayer modes such as Sprint, Reverse Tag, Stunt, and Soccer. It also includes a powerful level editor connected to Steam Workshop which already hosts over 150 user-created levels.

Founded in 2012, Refract is a small Seattle-based independent video game developer. The studio was formed from developers behind several experimental, award-winning projects like Solace (IGF 2011, IndieCade 2010, PAX10 2010), Nitronic Rush (Inside Gaming Awards 2011, Indie Game Challenge 2012, Independent Propeller Awards 2012), Solstice (Sense of Wonder Night 2011, hóPLAY 2012), and others created while attending DigiPen Institute of Technology.

The team is currently developing a futuristic arcade racer called Distance as a spiritual successor to their hit student PC racing game Nitronic Rush. It was successfully Kickstarted in 2012 at over $161,000 and in early 2013 it was the first racing game to be Greenlit on Steam. Distance was also recently selected to be shown at both PAX East and PAX Prime with Indie MEGABOOTH.
