20+ Years of Gaming & Community
From classic Source engine mods to commercial releases and the friends made along the way.
Our Journey Through Time
Founded in 2003 as a gaming magazine and project hub under Netherlands based TechConnect, GameConnect quickly evolved into an active modding collective and commercial game development studio.
From our early days crafting iconic Half-Life 2 mods like Stargate: The Last Stand to releasing commercial Steam titles like Nuclear Dawn and Dark Matter, gaming has always been more than just a hobby for us, it’s our passion.
Today, GameConnect stands as a dedicated gaming community for enthusiasts across PC, Steam, and PlayStation. We’ve returned to our roots: bringing gamers together to play, discuss, and share memories in a friendly, welcoming environment.
A Global Community Effort
At its peak, GameConnect operated as SteamFriends for several years, running vibrant multiplayer hubs and community networks across Europe before uniting everything back under the original GameConnect banner in 2010.
What made these years special was our global network of volunteer passion: dozens of talented developers, level designers, texture artists, and coders from all over the world joined forces as hobbyists. Bound together by a shared love for Valve's Source engine and PC gaming, our international team spent countless late nights turning wild ideas into playable reality purely for the fun of creating together.
This grounds the personal history of the team, highlights the SteamFriends era, and emphasizes the hobbyist/community spirit perfectly without repeating the timeline data on the right!
Exploring Our Historical News Archive
For over sixteen years, GameConnect stood at the forefront of independent gaming journalism, tracking the rise of competitive multiplayer titles, total conversion mods, engine evolutions, and community-driven projects. From local esports tournament coverage to exclusive developer interviews and hardware reviews, our editorial team documented a transformative era in gaming history.
While active editorial publishing concluded in 2020 as GameConnect transitioned into a dedicated archival portal, our complete vault of news articles, feature write-ups, and project logs remains fully preserved. Whether you are looking up legacy source mod developments, revisiting retro game launches, or exploring our community milestones, the entire database is open for historical, educational, and research purposes.
